Schoolcraft County Booking Photos
A mugshot is the identification photograph made during booking. It belongs to that admission record, not to a later finding of guilt and not to the release event. The same person can have more than one booking and more than one image. A precise request should name the person, aliases, date of birth, and a narrow booking date range so the county can connect the photograph to the intended jail stay.
Michigan’s local law-enforcement retention schedule, known as GS11, lists mugshots within a jail-inmate jacket. The jacket may also contain booking cards, bonds, transfer papers, inmate release forms, and property-release forms. The schedule is a record-category guide, not a promise that Schoolcraft County creates every listed item or must disclose all parts. Medical and other protected material can be separated from the public portions.
The county-held image remains a booking record after the person leaves the jail roster. Michigan’s Attorney General FOIA handbook summarizes Patterson v Allegan County Sheriff as holding that a county-jail booking photo is a public record and is not exempt based only on privacy. Other lawful exemptions can still apply to a specific case. A narrow request for the image and release fields gives the records office room to redact protected material rather than treat the entire jacket as one item.
Schoolcraft County Photo Channels
Schoolcraft County has fewer official photo channels than many counties. The sheriff website has no roster, release-photo view, or gallery. No sheriff-branded jail app was verified. The county records request is therefore the primary local source, while MDOC OTIS is relevant only when the person entered state prison jurisdiction.

A photo match alone is weak evidence. Names collide, images age, and an old booking can surface during a new search. Compare the photograph with the booking number, date, charge or court identifier, and the release record. Never infer a current Schoolcraft County custody status from an image’s mere presence or absence.
No Schoolcraft County Photo Feed
The official Schoolcraft County sheriff page publishes the jail address and phone, but no online inmate search, current roster, recent-release tab, or booking-photo gallery was identified. It also provides no official link to a sheriff mobile app. Those absences are verified local findings. They should not be filled with an unofficial page that uses county terms without control of the jail record.
The VINELink app serves a different task. MI-VINE can report status and send alerts for MDOC and participating local agencies. It is not a Schoolcraft sheriff mugshot app. Schoolcraft County Jail participation is not promised on the sheriff page, so live coverage must be checked before a person or image is expected there.
The Schoolcraft County 24-hour release path also begins with the jail and a date-specific records request because no official rolling feed exists. When the goal is a photo, add the exact booking photograph to that request. When the goal is release proof, ask for the release form and code as separate records.
Note: No official Schoolcraft County roster, photo feed, or sheriff app was found, so the county record is the dependable route.
Request Schoolcraft County Booking Photos
Use the Schoolcraft County FOIA form and identify the sheriff or jail records sought. The form is addressed to Schoolcraft County, 300 Walnut Street, Room 164, Manistique, MI 49854. The county contact number is 906-341-3618. The form allows a copy, certified copy, or inspection and offers pickup, mail, email, or county-provided digital media when the county can use that method.
- Give the person’s full name, known aliases, date of birth, and a narrow booking-date range.
- Ask for the nonexempt booking photograph tied to that specific booking or booking number.
- Also request the booking sheet, release date and time, release or disposition code, inmate release form, and transfer destination if any.
- Ask for electronic copies, a fee estimate, and separation or redaction of exempt content instead of withholding the whole record.
- Keep the response with the image so the booking and release evidence do not become detached.
Under MCL 15.235, the public body responds within five business days by granting, denying, granting in part, or issuing one written extension of up to ten business days. That response is not always full production on the fifth day. No Schoolcraft sheriff-specific photo or copy rate was found, so a fee should not be guessed. Request an estimate first.
A broad demand for an entire file can pull in material that is not needed and may be exempt. A photo plus release fields is much more focused. Pair Photos With Release Proof
Schoolcraft County publishes no official recent-release photograph page. That makes the Michigan booking-photo rule especially useful, but it also makes context essential. The photograph proves booking and processing. It does not prove that the person left the jail, when departure occurred, or whether the person went home or into another agency’s custody.
Pair the photo request with the release sheet. The most useful fields are the release date and time, release or disposition code, and transfer destination. “Bond” means physical departure while the court case continues. “Time served” or sentence completion ends that local term. “Transfer” means Schoolcraft custody ended but another custodian received or was due to receive the person. A photo cannot distinguish any of those outcomes.
Important: This privately run resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. Mugshot information may not be used for credit, employment, housing, insurance, tenant screening, or any other FCRA-regulated purpose.
If the release sheet is unclear, use the exact D93~2 MiCOURT record for bond, misdemeanor disposition, and early felony events. A felony case may continue in the 11th Circuit Court. Court entries explain legal authority, while the jail record supplies the actual local release or transfer event.
Schoolcraft County MDOC Photos
MDOC OTIS may display an offender photograph for a person who entered Michigan prison or MDOC supervision jurisdiction. It is not a Schoolcraft County Jail booking photo. OTIS also excludes county-jail prisoners, jail-only sentences, and people beyond much of its public post-discharge display window. An empty result is therefore expected for many local releases.
Some state records lack a photograph because the person left before electronic photography or was not photographed. When an image exists, match the MDOC number, commitment name, birth date, sentence, county, and status rather than relying on the face alone. A `PAROLE` status with Date Paroled supports a state-prison departure. A `DISCHRG` status means MDOC jurisdiction ended, but it does not by itself prove a recent living release from prison.
If a Schoolcraft jail release record shows transfer into MDOC custody, use OTIS after state intake. Keep the local booking photo and state offender photo labeled by source. They document different agencies and different points in the custody path.

Schoolcraft County Photo Visibility
GS11 keeps the jail-inmate jacket until release plus ten years. Booking and control-center logs remain through calendar-year end plus seven years, while daily count summaries remain through year-end plus one year. These are official retention instructions, not online-display periods. A legal hold, case, audit, or other rule can affect destruction, and an exemption can affect what is disclosed.
Michigan Clean Slate and set-aside law can change what remains in ordinary public view. The Michigan State Police Clean Slate page describes automatic and application paths. A set-aside can remove a conviction from public systems, and OTIS says a set-aside or expungement can remove its public entry. That change does not rewrite the historical booking or release date, but it can limit present access.
No current Michigan anti-pay-to-remove mugshot statute was verified in the official Legislature database during the project research. No code number or removal right should be invented. Requests about an official record should go to the office that holds it and should cite the actual set-aside, sealing order, correction, or access rule involved. Commercial removal services are not endorsed.
Official and News Image Limits
Official sheriff social posts and regional news may show an arrest image or report that a named defendant received a bond release. Those sources are episodic. They are not complete Schoolcraft County booking-photo archives or release lists. A named report can help locate a case, but the exact Schoolcraft D93~2 MiCOURT record and jail record should confirm the outcome.
Commercial photo and data pages can hold old copies after an official source changes. They may omit the release type, use the wrong booking, or detach the photo from later court action. Do not use those pages to certify that someone left custody, identify a release time, or infer a destination. No such service is linked here, and payment-based removal offers should not be treated as an official remedy.
When sources conflict, prefer the record creator. Schoolcraft County controls its booking photo and release entry. The court controls its orders. MDOC controls its offender image and state status. Label each image with its source and booking or offender number so that a future reader can tell what it actually documents.
